Oak Brook is a hidden gem with over 8,000 residents located 19 miles west of the Chicago Loop. Despite its small size, Oak Brook offers many amenities with abundant sports facilities and numerous shopping and dining options. Most known for having the second largest mall in Illinois, Oak Brook also has low property taxes and great schools. The village’s housing includes sprawling estates with architecture ranging from traditional designs to striking contemporary properties.
Oak Brook residents enjoy a mix of work and play. The village is headquarters to a number of large companies including Ace Hardware, Blistex, Federal Signal, CenterPoint Properties and TreeHouse Foods. The communities in Oak Brook are spread amongst acres of open space providing for fresh air, outdoor fun and a wide variety of shopping, dining and recreation activities.
Oakbrook Center is a major regional mall anchored by Macy’s, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus department stores. The mall appeals to all with stores such as Apple, Gap, H&M, Pandora and Pottery Barn; high end luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Peloton, Tiffany, Tesla and a plethora of options in between. Oakbrook Center also has two AMC movie theaters, sit-down restaurants, and a food hall. Popular restaurants at Oakbrook Center include stylish Italian eateries Antico Posto and Maggiano’s, Japanese inspired meals and sushi at Roka Akor and upscale steak and seafood at Wildfire, Gibson’s or Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille. Oakbrook Center also has a great selection of healthier dining options at trendy newer eateries like True Food Kitchen, Beatrix, and Seasons 52. If you’re looking for some fun, Pinstripes combines classic Italian-American dining with activities such as bowling and bocce.
Taste of Oak Brook is the village’s annual Fourth of July celebration. The event features food from some of the best local restaurants and special kids’ activities such as face painting, a bounce house, and a petting zoo. This fun day culminates with a spectacular fireworks display.
The nearby Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve provides miles of trails for bicycling, dog walking, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in a gorgeous 200+ acre natural setting. Salt Creek runs through Fullersburg Woods and is a popular local fishing spot. The grounds include the 1852 Graue Mill, museum and Graue House which can be rented for private events.
Drury Lane Theatre in neighboring Oakbrook Terrace stages some of the best theatrical productions in Chicagoland. Oak Brook also offers an abundance of sports and recreational amenities. Oak Brook Sports Core has eight clay tennis courts, a natural sand beach with a kayaking and canoeing pond, and a swimming and aquatics center with three heated pools and a 14-foot diving well.
Sunday matches at the Oak Brook Polo Club have been a local tradition since the 1920s. The polo grounds are located next to the municipal 18-hole golf course at Oak Brook Golf Club and the private 18-hole course at Butler National Country Club. This sprawling recreation area is surrounded by the elegant Drake Hotel and Hyatt Lodge.
Oak Brook residents disperse into a variety of neighboring community school districts. Depending on location, Oak Brook students could feed into Elmhurst, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Hillside, Hinsdale, LaGrange, Maywood, Villa Park, Westmont or Willowbrook schools.
Located within Oak Brook itself is District 53, which includes one public elementary school (Brook Forest Elementary School) and one public middle school (Butler Junior High School). The students that attend District 53 attend Hinsdale Central High School.
